Kunming - Revisited

This was our second visit in Kunming after 2006, and it was somehow disappointing to see that the ¨Muslim Quarter¨ was in the final stages of being obliterated from the face of the city. Walti took a tour on our day off, while Anne had to tend to some work.

Afterwards, we visited a GOME appliance store to check out the situation. It was quite interesting to learn that customer awareness of energy efficiency was high and that many were taking advantage of the government's ¨old-for-new¨ program to trade in their old appliances for new ones. China has done an amazing job of transforming their refrigerator market over the past 15 years.

This was also our final day with the group, and, once again, Cathy had picked a fine restaurant for our ¨last supper¨, and we had a top class hotel right in the center of the action. Overall, we were very satisfied with the tour, which was organized by a Thai-based company, Spice Roads, which sub-contracted to a local Kunming tour company. This was the 7th time that Cathy had led a group on this route, and she did a fantastic job.
