Tiger Leaping Gorge

We were treated to walnut and banana crepes for breakfast today – the walnuts were painstakingly hand-picked by the guesthouse owner. Although it was a “day off”, Walti and I decided to explore the upper half of the gorge towards Qiaotou by bike. But we didn’t get far: After about 10 km, we encountered rock slides and the road was completely blocked off to the main road into the gorge.

So, we turned around and rode back, stopping for a break at the Bridge Café, which had an incredible view up the gorge and into the abyss. After reading guest book entries, which gave rave reviews for the food, we decided to ride back up for dinner later.

Dinner lived up to the expectations. Not only was the evening view, with a very starry sky, something very special, we dined for the first time on “Rösti” China-style, which was basically like the Swiss version, only more thinly cut. We also had Naxi pizza, which was a baba (a round of freshly baked soft wheat bread), filled with wok-fried onion and tomato. The only thing that we missed was the Yunnan cheese (they were out).
