Foot massage
Ah, those little luxuries in life...after a hard day of work and a dinner shared with friends or colleagues, there's nothing like a communal foot massage! Big, overstuffed recliners, maybe some inobtrusive music, a soak in hot water, a nice cup of flower fruit tea, neck & shoulder massage, foot massage...By the end, you feel either totally exhausted and longing for bed, or just very content and mellow - in both cases, relaxation pure!
Foot massage locales are everywhere. One of my favorites is the one in my own apartment building - the ultimate convenience. They usually offer a whole menu of massages and treatments (like a spa would), but my standard is a 70-minute foot massage with exfoliation.
Affordable luxury at only RMB 98 (with my 20% member discount card!) And these people are professional. They know when you are not well and can often diagnose what ails you - a tender spot on your sole can indicate stomach or digestive problems, and the condition of the shoulder muscles also speaks volumes.
My current favorite is #29, with the english name David (I have no idea what his real name is). Here he is, working on my feet earlier this evening.

Hi, Anne, I know exactly what you mean! One of my friends here in Bern has taken up a serious massage course because she needs to plan for the rest of her life -- she's a dancer and cannot go on forever. She has used me as her guinea pig a couple of times now, giving me back, shoulder, neck, foot, hand and arm massages -- absolutely wonderful.
Very much enjoying your blog entries -- fascinating insights! Thank you, and I hope you keep on enjoying your stay in Beijing.
Have fun during this week's Moon Festival and the general holidays.
Hugs
Margret
